evangelism

This week was a crazy week. The Fall DTS was back and preparing for their graduation ceremony which was on Friday so our schedule was off kilter all week.
Our speaker this week was Doug Tunney from YWAM Boston and he spoke this week on evangelism. Doug has personally led over 100,000 people to Christ from around the world. He gave us the "wordless book" as a tool to use in sharing the gospel message to those we meet. I had heard of this book before, when I was a kid, but I didn't know how effective it really is as a tool for sharing the gospel.
Doug also used the story of Blondin walking across the Niagra Falls on a tightrope*. Some of you may know this story, and so did I, but I never realized how much of a great analogy it is for us putting our strength and faith in the Lord. Doug also gave us many tips and information in order to be more effective in sharing the gospel. One of his main arguements was that science is always changing, but there are over 2,500 fossils proving the Bible and creation to be true.
His final point, and probably his strongest one, was that sharing the gospel does not require us to go abroad and it is not a calling. We are all commanded to go out to the people around us and share the gospel with them. So, on Wednesday afternoon, we all went out with our wordless books and Bibles and we shared the gospel to the people of Pukalani, a near by town. It was super cool to have a tool to actually use as a guideline to share the gospel. In the course of those couple of hours 4 people had come to Christ and 2 people re-committed their lives to Him. It was a great day.
It was a great week. We only have 4 weeks left in Maui and then we fly to Bangladesh for two months. I may not be able to update the blog very frequently in Bangladesh due to lack of internet access and the internet being so slow, but I shall do my best. Continue to pray for us all here as lecture phase draws to a close and as we prepare for Bangladesh and the other nations.
* To clarify, he told us the story of when he first went across the falls and when he returned, he asked someone to go across on his back.
